Anyone had any experience of PACE RC36 Pro Class 2 forks? Thinking of picking up a pair on Saturday; the guy selling them says that have a bit of operational noise, although not quite sure what he means by that.

Anyone got a pair/owned some - are they a bit noisy? Easy to service? Much to go wrong?

Also - am I right in thinking that they are adjustable between 80mm and 100mm?

Thanks! :)

Plush..

Good and quiet. Normally.

They are adjustable I think, The man too speak too is Tim at Fork English. RB Member justbackdated.

I've got some on my full suss bike - nice and smooth. No noise - but then I do regrease them after each ride.

Yes - 80mm or 100mm.

Mine are 80mm at the mo - but are going up to Tim soon for a full service and lockout fitting :)

Tim is the THE MAN on Pace forks.

Probably the best pair of forks Pace made travel/performance/reliability wise. Were a step back to purely coil sprung fork after the debacle of the leaky air assisted Evo2/3.

As with any Pace fork they have their achilles heel problems:
Look out for broken springs and damaged magnesium dropouts and bridges[I can replace]. Check the crown in the scallops underneath for cracks/holes[not repairable]. Replace the circlips occasionally to avoid failure. Replace damper oil every 6 months. jobs a good-un :D

Tim - you're obviously a useful person to know. :)) Just out of interest, what sort of price might I be looking at for a full service or a spring replacement? (PM me if you like)

I'm going to have to run them at 80mm I think to (just) get away with the height difference for my Zaskar. Is that a tricky job to do myself, or just spacers? (I used to service my Mag 21s now and then so don't object to getting a bit oily :) )

Springs are a tenner each for the small ones[3 in all] and about £15 each if it is an A or B main spring. It is usually the small initial or supplementary springs that break, occasionally a B main. A mains are rocking horse. Broken springs will show up as free unsprung travel in the fork.

To adjust the travel the spring side has to be stripped out and a spring and spacer repositioned in the stack-a good time to replace those pesky circlips ;)

Have you seen many broken A mains? Slightly worried about investing only to find six months later I can't use them while I try and source one. :)

There were actually two spring stacks for the PC2. A shortlived early version which had similarly sized A and B springs and the later replacement which had a much larger A spring[never seen broken]and smaller B. The early set up suffered with broken springs and sagging height, the later B spring can be a bit fragile. The later main A spring went on to be used in the Stealth Hollowform with a longer B spring.

There was a hard spring stack too-shared with the RC36 Stealth [rare].

Trying to source some replacements now ;)

Actually - bit more of an open question here... I'm looking at fitting these to my 96 Zaskar which is currently running some Mag 21s that I put on it 15 odd years ago. After loads of peering round the web I've finally managed to find someone who reckons that the axle to crown of the Pace PC Evo 2 is 450mm and my Mag 21s (and lots of forks around then it seems) are in the 400mm region. Is 5cm that too much? Am I going to kill both me and, more importantly, my frame? Just when I thought I'd got it all sus'd (literally!)
