Pace RC36 fork advice

Hi, A mate has some RC36's which I am interested in for my P7 rebuild. He believes they are from 1997 and are in good condition. My P7 has XTR canti's does anyone know if these will fit on these forks or whether you can get a kit to convert them.

He is after £75 for them which I think is a pretty fair price.

Not sure you can fella, i may be wrong, and you may be able to change the Brace/booster but the best person to speak to is Tim (justbackdated) our resident PACE Fork expert. Nice forks and fair price :D

If he's a mate, I'd want em for fifty quid...!

It's highly unlikely they are plug and play... To work at their best a refurb with Justbackdated would be advised and that will be more than the cost of the fork...

Worth every penny though...

It looks like an upgrade to V's is probably in order then!

Is there anything else I need to check. He says they are 1" which is what I need. Presumably I need to measure the steerer against my old RST's

You can do that to give you a guide, dont forget the crown race will need removing from the old forks and fitting to the PACE, unless you are changing the headset. Its fairly straight forward. If it needs cutting down then get a LBS to do it, or you can tackle it yourself if your feeling brave :) And conversantly if you need a longer steerer contact Tim (Justbackdated) who will sort you out, dont throw the old one as you can sell and get some £££ back in the ole pocket :)

I've fitted two sets on both my C16R's and found that as long as you measure and re-measure and dont rush, you will be ok. The bolts on the steerer if you need to swap it have a Torque setting Tim will be able to furnish you with these if needed, and its worth getting some Locktight/Threadlock also and Copper grease, could save you some hurt later down the line. PACE forks are great as long as you look after them. like i said Tim is a great source of knowledge and will help out where possible :)

Thanks for the advice, I must admit I forgot about the steerer crown. The headset seems ok and replacements are either bling and expensive or rare.

I'm not sure whether to look for some other forks (maybe Judys) or buy these bad boys and change to V brakes. I think I can sell the XTR Canti's judging by the forum here so it would be a case of finding some appropriate V brakes and ignoring the hanger on the wishbone.

Moving to V's would be a definate upgrade even if it veers from the hardcore retro scheme.

I don't recall ever seeing cantis on RC36 fork, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.......

£75 isn't cheap, it's about market value I think. Haggle :D

Nice forks though. I have a couple and am well happy with them, but I'm no Bomb Hole Jumper.

Not so, I picked up a 1" threaded Ritchey Logic headset from Chain Reaction Cycles for £10 inc P&P :) really good headset similar to Shimano in many ways. :D Retrobiking doesn't have to be expensive.
