I can feel a bit of a update coming on :D -

Just arrived today after having it on backorder for the last few weeks. I'll be popping over to CRC tomorrow for the other bits required and get more pics up once fitted. There'll maybe one or two other changes as well ;) .

New brakes and 10sp drivetrain fitted and I think this might be finished now :D -

Its not exactly 'period correct' so I'm not expecting everybody to like it, but it's such a great frame and still contemporary in my eyes so I think the latest kit works well on it.

I'm very impressed with the 10 speed. The shifting is noticeably smoother than M970 XTR and a bit quieter too. I need to change the front mech though as it won't come down far enough causing the chain to come off occasionally when shifting up. The coming winter will tell how reliable it all is and how it copes with mud and gloop.....

And some more pics -

Looking spot on now. Good choices all round. Just need some clipless pedals and it'll be a proper XC bike.

It's a good representation of how I would have done a modern build on mine - but I think that as you are following the laws of Pace and doing the Hope/Middleburn thing, that you need a pair of RS8-X cranks running on a Pace or Hope external bearing BB as the icing on the cake.

Am running M953 front mech on mine with 42-30/11-32 if that's of any use in terms of advice.

Looks great! Like all the little touches as well. I bet it's fast! How are you finding the ten spd? Is it worth it? I'm toying with it myself for the Cotic.
All you need now are some proper forks

Very sweet ride!

With regards to following the laws of Pace - guilty as charged m'lud. I have RS8 X-type's on my Ibis but they are 3x9 at the moment. When I get more pennies saved up I'll probably go 2x10 on the Ibis and then swap the cranks over. The only other thing needs changing is the King headset for a Hope. I'm also waiting for the Hope pedals to come out so I can fit those and stick the NC-17's on the Ibis.

The 10 speed is just that little bit slicker than the previous XTR, probably due to the cogs being closer together so I'm very happy with it. I'm running 42/29 on the front and I now have the same spread of ratio's as I had when it was 3x9. Is it worth it? I'd say if you can afford it then go for it but its a big investment for one extra cog at the back.....

Thats summed up well mate. Drive train will most prob be the last thing i get for the Cotic so i've plenty of time to think about it.
Very very nice RC300, congrats on a cool build

So as some of you may have noticed, I put this frame up for sale a few weeks ago. I thought it was a keeper but sometimes you have to let go

And today my replacement arrived - another 16.5" RC300 in silver, except this one is NOS :D

It cost me a bit more than I would have liked once the postage etc was taken into account but I think its worth it. It's brand new and never built and even came with the crud guard and carbon armour patches it was originally supplied with

Don't expect the build to change much but here's some pics of the new shinyness -

wowwowwow

was a little surprised you were leaving the RC300 club! as your bike is so nice. As you know your's has inspired mine and am glad you are still sticking to a similar build... the rc300 really suits a modern spec.

Anyone got an 18" hidden away they want to sell?!?
