The plating in the clamp section is probably ok.

If it wasn't painted by design, then why paint that area? - it might be ok, but masking it off isn't hard.

As for rechroming- it would be cheaper to buy a nice condition rc30 fork than to rechrome a tatty pair of legs professionally.

Thanks for the advice @bikeworkshop having looked into the cost of re-chroming or nickel plating, I'll be looking at paint options, hence the question, as I want to advise them appropriately! Makes sense that the area would be best left 'au natural'

Yes saw those and felt happier with the choice to follow that path, although the bar is now high!

5 minutes with a sticky old brush and some hammerite isn't going to look good amongst those efforts
Good job it's not me - my finishing skills are a little er underdeveloped

I have this set still to sort out.not sure what bike I’ll stick them on and what colour if any they’ll go.
Will clean them up first and see how they look.
