Pace forks servicing?

Muddy Paws

I have just acquired some old RC??? Pace forks and managed to get the head tube altered to fit my Muddy Fox Courier Comp. I know there are some real Pace experts out there who will be able to give me some advice on stripping down and replacing the elastomers. The forks are OK but have lost their elasticity - they just sink down to the bottom of their travel and stay there when I get on the bike. I have managed to get hold of a buff coloured (medium) XCS elastomer kit, however before I start taking the forks apart I want to make sure I have the right bits to complete the job I will suffer withdrawal symptoms without my Muddy. I would really appreciate any advice as I really don't know what I am going to find inside these great looking forks. (I have some pix on my gallery page)

dead easy to service. if you tip the bike upside down you will see an allen headed bolt at the bittom of each leg. undo these carefully - use a good quality allen key as these bolts are alloy and rare/expensive.

with the bolts undone the sliders can be pulled off the stantions. remove old elastomers, fit freshly greased new elastomers and washers refit sliders, refit bolts - carefully!

THE man for pace forks is "justbackdated" aka tim. he used to work for pace and now specialises in parts and servicing of old forks. a handy name to remember.

Incidently if your elastomers are really bad (as in they have turned to a greasy gungy dust) use some warm water and some form of tool to scrape/wash out all the gunk before fitting the new elastomers.
