Devout Dirtbag
Take yourself back to the halcyon days of the mid-nineties with this mint time machine! This baby is dialled to mid-nineties period perfection, when big rings were on the front, not the back and only Konas (yes, ok and a few other Canadian frames) had long top tubes! 20 years on and this bike is still cutting edge!
Judging from the components, this is a late '94 frame since it's sprinkled with a few components that appear on the stock '95 Kilauea. I'm the second owner and apart from changing the saddle and pedals, it is, I suspect, unchanged from the showroom floor. I don't think she's been off-road ever. Museum piece or trail shredder, you choose.
The pictures can do most of the talking, but there are a few things to note. There has been no paint touch up whatsoever. There are a few scratches with superficial rust. I leave that for the next owner to sort out. The right fork leg is bleeding oil, but not air and it seems to work fine. I don't understand air shocks and haven't taken it apart, but it probably could do with a new seal. Most bearings have recently been cleaned and repacked, the brakes may need some tweaking. More pics to come.
Quick roll call:
- XT hubs.
- 7 speed cluster, but shifter will handle 8.
- Araya rims.
- Suntour thumbies (Suntour cables too!)
- Ritchey Logic brakes.
- Geax Streetrunner 1.75 tyres.
