I'm in love! Now which frame shall I get blasted? ;) my pioneer would be the ideal candidate. I wonder how hard wearing the finish is.

With black decals is very cool with all my blackness.

Go on Bryn, leave it as is.

That is gorgeous ! and very tempting as the brazing on mine is beautiful and it would be very different, but I still think after finding out the history behind this frame it still needs to be orange and white.

You're right of course. But it would be one hell of a finish….

After seeing that Curtis it is tempting, I’d think I’d prefer it with white decals tho not the black.
That’s the thing with fillet brazing, it looks great when bare and shows the skill and talent of the frame builder and then we cover it up in paint !
But then the skill of the painter is on show !
The finish on my frame after the bead blasting is like the frame has been sprayed silver the photos don’t really do it justice.

I'd bought two NOS rear XT skewers, I'd planned on converting the one to a front, initially I was told it was not possible as the threads were rolled not cut.
I measured the diameter of the rear skewers, they both measured 4.9mm at the thread and 5mm in the centres.
I used an existing front skewer to measure the length and depth of the thread and marked it with a permanent pen
I cut the skewer to length and using my glamorous assistant Bob, we used a 5mm die and cut a new thread.
Then re- tapped the nut with a 5mm tap.

Worked a treat !

Just got to polish the front hub now to match the rear.

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

Got a pair of NOS Araya CV-7 black rims from "Rio" to go with the hubs, just need to get them built !
Was planning on using a pair of used Mavic 231CD's but I think the build will deserve some new rims! :D
