Arrived home to a package !
Thanks for those, will have a fettle and see how much room I have with the double lug in the lever, I've found a smaller adjuster that leaves room for the ferrule to fit into the adaptor plate I can fit an in line adjuster for the front brake, I'm hoping this will work as it means I can use a period lever with no major modifications to it. :D

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

I started reading through this thread this morning, its gone from a "tart it up and ride it" to a full blown wallet busting, time consuming monster !
I had always planned for the respray as there was some corrosion to the frame but even that's got slightly out of hand !
The plan to re use the original Deore group set went out the window as I started to obtain an XTII group some used some NOS and I've lost count of the hours of cleaning, polishing, painting ......

I had planned to use a Paul Duo lever for the brakes, but after finding the Fixcraft double cable I decided on using an old MT-63 lever that I bought 20 odd years ago, I stripped it down and re sprayed the body and sent the lever out to powder coat.

Put it all back together, with a couple of hoods kindly donated by THM and one out of my mates spares box ( it was like buses ) :D and it looks like new.

I'm probably going to have to use one of the adapted hoods to fit both cables through but I think it looks better than the Paul lever.

I managed to pick up some black cantilevers from Coleman, they were in pretty good condition but decided they could do with refurbing to match everything else

I'd bought a sonic cleaner from Aldi's the other week so lobbed them into there with some gunk and zapped them for 5 minutes, you could see the grease and muck coming off them :D

Will give them a once over with wet and dry and then give them a coat of satin black to match.

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

Sorry this is going to be picture heavy !
Bought a Flite Titanium at a cycle jumble, was going to sell it on but then in a moment of madness removed the cover

Sanded down the original foam as small bit stayed attached to the cover

Then removed as much of the old adhesive that I could with some acetone and a toothbrush

After a failed first attempt to fit a new cover I had to resign myself to the fact that you need two hands to recover a saddle :(

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

I went to a local shoemakers ( a mate of a mate ) we cut out a square of soft shoe leather and soaked it in hot soapy water for about an hour, while waiting a mould was made out of timber for the nose, with the leather now stretchy we could ply the leather round the nose without having to cut darts into it.

then the leather was left to dry for a week

Id drawn out the decals and another mate cut them out of vinyl for me

I tried a sample of the selle italia logo out on a sample piece of the same leather and air brushed the logo in with Tamiya Acrylic paint

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

Finished recovering the saddle, we had to paint a primer on the plastic underside before using contact adhesive, let the adhesive dry completely then heated it up to activate the adhesive, an iron was used to smooth out the leather if you brush soapy water onto the leather the hot iron doesn't burn the leather.

Going to get some two pack acrylic paint to airbrush the final decals in as I'm told this is very hardwearing.
