Overbury's Pioneer 1988 - Finished Page 8

Re: Overbury's Pioneer 1988 - Maiden ride

It certainly is looking really excellent now mate and that little need to do list won't take long to sort when you get started and you've done a real nice job painting those brake levers so what did you prep them with before painting as smoothrite can be a bit of a bugger to get a good finish with ..

Re:

Waited until the missus was in a good mood with one of her mates around for a glass or two of wine and dragged the overbury's out of hiding, her frown at the sight of a bike she hadn't seen before was swiftly brushed over as 'I've had it a while' and 'top up of wine ladies'.....I think I pulled it off!

Not a lot of prep on the levers MP, little wire wool go over and hung up for a dusting of paint, dry overnight and spray in the morning, dry in the day and spray again, repeat until happy.

Chain oiled so not as squeaky, Rear brake sorted, headset tightened and the stem changed to the T-bone. still heed to address the front wheel though, easy weekend job if I get chance plus them pedals.... pedal bearings, messy.

I think I like the T-bone visually.... but not sure about the turbo lite, think I'll keep an eye out for a rolls, or do I have a black Turbo somewhere :?

Re: Overbury's Pioneer 1988 - Maiden ride

I think you got off really light with the mr's if i'm to believe that she's convinced by what you told her as that routine would work with my mrs at the time only and then a day or so later on she would start with the odd little hint to how long ago and who sold it to me  ..

Well the T Bone certainly suit's the bike better imho and glad to see you've quitend the squeaky chain as gotta be enough to get on any one's nerves as for loose spokes though i'd have to get the wheel to my lbs as i tend to destroy the damn things when i try sorting spokes  and pedals i don't mind sorting to be honest just as long as i use a magnet to keep the bearings in one place ;) ,

Thanks for the gen on your paint work as i'll make a note of that and that saddle now you mention it does look a tad narrow and would be better suited to a road bike and a standard turbo would be more fitting to the overall looks of the Overbury's so of course if you've got one then i'd use it but overall your bike is coming on nicely  ..

Re: Overbury's Pioneer 1988 - Maiden ride

Looking great mate :) Do you like the way it rides?

Re:

4 years on.....

Si, sorry for the late reply fella, ride is good, the stem feels a tad long but the looks are right and I can live with it.

any hoo .... like I say 4 years on and time for change, I have always been aware that going by the clues of exage Mtn front derailleur and LH crank arm that this probably started as an exage Mountain equipped Pioneer, as such I have decided to downgrade from the deore II to exage, now I know this is quite a downgrade but I'm liking the idea of it and its a rare and cool looking groupset so on with the show

here it is this morning after having a pint in the sun by the river, still with its Deore II in place, YES! serving alcohol in the sun!

Re: Overbury's Pioneer 1988 - Revisited

Lee,

Four years has flown by?! I admire your plan - it’s good that different groupsets remain in use.

Re:

Cool, I really like my zinn with a full exage groupset rather than the xt, dx and ritchey mix. Same with the kirk a almost fill deore (except front mech as it's a braze on)

Re:

Sure has hasnt it, Stripdown and search for the bits I have kicking around begins.

:!: Seems I cant find a rear derailleur :?

Re:

So search put out for a pair of nice mechs for the overburys, turns our my original from the bike is bent and the other is a 31,8mm band

I have stripped the frame of all its deoreand removed the headset, .... just picked up a nos exage unit from evilbay so in it goes
