Over the bars clipped in

I got a broken collar bone for my efforts...yes it hurt.

From what I recall one foot came unclipped, but that as was said was most likely due to the bizare gravity assisted body angle rather than any built in planned feature. (Shimano XT 2008 model)

Did this a month ago clipped in. Didn't really see it coming as the nasty dip in question was hidden by long reeds. I'd scrubbed off some speed when I missed my line and left the trail, but thought I could just ride it out... WRONG.

Straight over bars with no warning and I came clipped out immediately. Landed really heavily on my right shoulder with what sounded like a really loud crunch. I was sure I'd broken my collar bone, but no, luckily not that bad. Having said that, it's still not right a month later. It was about a week and a half before I could sleep on my right side, and it's still stiff in the morning when I wake up, and why does it hurt when I sneeze? :?

Yes I know, should have went to the doctors. Still love my spuds though :D

Zigzag with the sneezing pain, that does sound like a fractured collar bone or upper rib (less likely) - not much you can do about it anyway, especially a week or 2 on.
A trip to the doctor would confirm - if it is only muscle or tendon damage a cortisone injection might be what you get - but the needle is looonnngggg for that one.

A lot depends on how strongly you have the springs on the SPD's tensioned. Rode a pal's bike and struggled to unclip due to my spindly legs. I eventually had to park up against a fence to fight my way out!

My money's on tendons or muscle. Sneezing pain is deep in my chest - I'm reckoning if it were an upper rib it would have been giving me jip whenever I moved.

Strangely enough, not a fan of big needles, I'll give it another couple of weeks/months/years and see if it goes away on its own  At least it's not stopping me riding.

Could be a rib, did one of them at the same time as the collar bone. and yeah it was as you described.

If you had broken your collar bone, you would know about it. At the hospital they told me its fairly common to feel nautious / faint with the sort of pain you get. I survived was released to go home then the following morning got out of bed to go to the toilet and collapsed on the return trip only to come to an hour later. I had no way of picking my self up off the ground. Collar bones are funny things, although I bust my left one, applying pressure on the right side transfered the stress over to the left and so hurt. My left was totally unusable.

after 50 minutes I had managed to sit myself upright then a further 20 minutes later and some ingenious use of a rear LX hub on M521 rim managed to create a perch that enabled me to stand.

Really had to be the most vunerable I have ever felt.

I'll agree with that, the most painful thing I have ever done!

Bust my collarbone when aged 17 playing rugby just before the end of the first half. Played the second half (not much use, admittedly) and only decided to see medical attention when I got to the shower and noticed a bone sticking up under the skin.

Hurt like hell a week later when the bones started to knit together....
