Oval chainrings, now.....

Re:

Awww bless him, he looks so young he must have missed these 'not round' chainrings the 1st time around...or was it the 2nd...or 3rd...

BUT were EGGrings or Bio-pace actually oval.....?

Re:

These seem to be the latest new wonder thing. They worked so well the first time, they've decided to flog them again to a new crowd. Tried one on my old Marin, bitd, before seeing sense after a week or so.

Re:

Egg rings were oval, Biopace were a rounded rhombus. Biopace were totally incorrectly aligned where as egg rings were spot on. I used them in the 90s and am still using them today (albeit newer ones), sadly Chris Bell has stopped making them now:

And an older one:

Not a new idea, one that dates back to the 1890s, so one of the earliest biking innovations that comes around as regular as clockwork. Check here:

Thomas Vanderham used oval ring in his DH bikes... few yeas ago (4-5-6?). It's good if You need "power" on your rear wheel:)

Re:

Have to admit the egg rings and the ones used by Team Sky look pretty rad – I was obviously scarred by the old Shimano Biopace coddlers.
