whats with the red bar in the middle of the bar?? why not just get a flat bar? Plus that very trusting of the seller to offer to collect any time. After payment i presume

Call yourself a retrobiker? In the early days of riser bars they weren't very good at bending them whilst retaining the strength, so some companies used to supply them with a brace to stiffen the bars up and reduce the chance of you snapping them as you rode down knarly DH courses with your 3" of elastomer suspension.

It's also partly because they were a direct lift from motocross, where the majority of bars have braces on them.

I'm pretty sure thats not actually an Orange, they had square section tubing at the back for one thing. Seller does actually point out he doesn't know the make.

I'm going tonight, anyone coming? - bring a crowbar!

It's not an orange, but I'm sure we can work it out when we've jacked it!

The chainstays I think were either square or very heavily ovalised, 'power stays'. Don't recall them having that throat gusset either unless its a much later model.

I'm no expert, and couldn't say specifically why but you are right, it just doesn't look right.I think the tubes look too fat! The decals are obviously aftermarket but that doesn't mean anyhing.

So your challenge, should you choose to accept it is - id that bike!!
