This is true and I don't know what it is but I have 2 bikes with XT Canti's (
One of which is Brocks old Elite ) and they stop real good, better than the bikes with suntour and XTR cantis :? :? and other bikes Iv'e ridden with V's and even discs.

Good cables and pads and more patience than you could dream of :!: They re the key, Don't forget to toe them in a little too so the front of the pad touches the wheel first and pulls the pad flat when fully on.

On the frame, there is no serial number, this could have been built by an employee for himself to ride or just experiment, a friend of mine works with a guy who used to work for pace and this I was told did happen and as it was never sold through a dealer it didn't have to or couldn't have a serial number.

Not saying that this is what your bike is but its possible, Naim Audio products can also be found without serial numbers meaning they were employee models, built and kept by the member of staff that put it together.

Yes that can be the case with some makes, but in the case of Orange it's a fact that prototypes were built in Halifax by Steve Wade, tested by Steve and Lester, and then the production frames were made in Taiwan. If the Prototype decal is original, the likelihood is that it was built (as well as designed) by Steve Wade as a one-off. If so, there's no particular reason why he would have given it a serial number.

The bike always had the Shimano Diore group set and Orange branded extras but I upgraded the breaks when one of the original integrated brakes/ shifters broke. I replaced the original cantilevers with V brakes but it was a bad decision as the Vs are ugly and the bike was built for cantis. Changing them back will be low cost and make a big difference to the aesthetics of the bike and will work just as good as long you don't take up downhill racing.

The only other change was the bars. The originals were orange branded and shaped like a D with the middle of the curved section cut out. I can't remember why I did that as again it's taken some of the original away. .

These 'D' bars with the middle of the 'D' missing sound an awful lot like bars with integrated bar ends, can't remember the proper name for them off the top of my head though...... :?
