I've got a 1992 Columbus (i think) tubed Orange Prestuge away being painted at the moment and am trying to get all the components together. Other than RC35's what were the most common forks used on these?
I thought the "prestige" was the tubing....rather than the standard tange db on a clockwork. I've got a 91 and that certainly is Tange prestige tubing. The original forks are standard tange cr mo with spinner dropouts.
The ultimate range...ultralite/ultrastrong etc were all variations on Tange prestige tubing.
Ultralite has a 0.1mm thinner central section in the tubes...tbh, it wasn't ever really designed for mtb use. But as people wanted lighter..it got used...lots failed or folded up. The ultrastrong was a solution to prestiges slightly flexy (which gives prestige is amazing twang and fantastic ride feedback) nature....especially as more aluminium was arriving on the scene with stiffer frames. It has internal and external reinforcement in the form of ditching and on some custom sets rifling.
Buts its all tange prestige still at heart.
If you have never had an old skool prestige frame...you have no idea what your missing! In imho..best tubeset ever for mtb use.
