Orange -inal Decisions

Hi All, your thoughts, ideas and suggestions please.

After recently becoming an RB newbie i have found myself re-living my youth, after owning a couple of Oranges in the past, a clockwork than an aluminium O my attraction to Orange bikes and my Ali O all those years ago has never really gone since it was stolen and never replaced.
I was on the hunt for another, within hours of registering I stumbled over Boy’O’Boys frame for sale.
He helped us out with a part build of some DX parts ;) , and then the addiction began.

As I started to put it together my thoughts were “wouldn’t it be cool if I could build it to the factory DX spec as of 20 years ago”.
I think the DX has a bit more retro feel about mainly due to the fact its gone but never forgotten

My paypal account suddenly started to get abused, which im sure most of us on here have been in the same situation, my OCD started turning NOS and before I know it id sourced a complete bike (a big thanks to all those that have helped me source the parts around the globe)

All these nice new parts are sitting in a draw waiting for a build. My intention was to build it, run it as it was (with the remaining bits borrowed from my Proflex) till the winter then start the winter project.

All was on track and then GT Steve decided to offload one of his Ali O’s  and alarm bells started to ring. I could run one and build one at the same time. :D

I now have 2 Orange/White both with good intentions but can’t make a decision.

So back to the topic, ideas and suggestions please.

Do I go for:

• New Orange/White colours with the new DX parts
• New Black/silver colours with the new DX parts
• Polish the frame like the Elite (badged as Aluminium though) with the new DX parts
• Matt Orange (same as my old clockwork) with the new DX parts

Then the other bike will be one of the above with the best of the remaining parts, looks like mostly XT at the mo

If im doing an original build my heart is telling me Orange/White.
Once decided I will start a new build topic in the readers MTB’s

Hey Phil - Alu O - matt silver all the way for me.
But then I am biased - as I have two in that colour :)

I upload to the Gallery on here - then link to them using the "g2Img" button
Works for me

Keep them both Orange /white - build one as a single speed, other geared -then you will have the perfect collection of useable retrobikes

Never really thought of a single speed. I'm tempted to do it polished to be a bit different. Though I might regret it once I start 3 weeks of polishing

If you go polished Phil get someone else to do it.......otherwise this thread will still be going next Christmas. :D

That matt silver or black from me buddy. :D

Yeah thats the only thing putting me off Ant
I feel I need to do it myself though, take a bit of pride from it
Might look at prices and local places that could do it.
Theres a place I know where I can get it stripped and powder coated black at a good price, that's an option, they may polish it as well
Frame with the polished forks now stripped of parts.
Anyone tried nitromorsing or wire wheel brushing

I notromors'd my first pink Funk back in 1991 (hangs head in shame :? ). Polished up well....but I had to keep redoing it every month or two to maintain the shine. I have an old photo of the offending moment I started the job somewhere.

A professional polisher will get a much better and finer finish that will last much much longer. They may also wax it which helps protect the frame.

Ant
ps....dont wire brush it !
