Clockworks use drainpipe tubing I always thought, Tange Infinity stuff. Nowt special.
Welcome gregster. Don't worry about Ben, you see it's just that he has such high standards I expect he genuinely thinks that drainpipes are made of double-butted Tange tubing. Maybe they are in his house, who knows?
Seriously though, I think the 93/4 frames were indeed made of Tange Infinity, which is a perfectly respectable mid-level double-butted tubeset.

As Anthony says, 1993/94 Clockworks were Tange Infinity. Quite possibly the finest tubes known to man.
Last of the real Clockworks imo, although the rest have merit.

It's heavy, heavier the 531 iirc. Also I don't think it's 'butted', hence the name but a continuous taper to infinity and beyond (though they call it butting) It's also seemed and you should be able to see this.Anthony":2x863b87 said:

Preferred the Prestige.AS for my drainpipes, I have retro plain gauge one's with external butting and these modern plastic tubing you get nowaday
I don't have the specs for earlier years, but the 1997 Tange specs show Infinity as a tapered double-butted tubeset with 9-6-9 top tube and 9-6-8 downtube, which made it marginally lighter than most of the other Tange tubesets. In the hierarchy, it was above the basic Tange MTB (but even that was double-butted). They still make Infinity, now all 9-6-9.

I would assume the tubing hasn't changed, just more introduced/market for MTB in 1997.
To put it in perspective, entry level MTB's to me are 'Clockworks' and hence have Deore LX minimum components on them, anything below is a recreational use, touring bike
Orange made one of the better one's I tried out and I understand the love for them, just they also made better bikes.
Shame Orange diluted them as C16 by bringing low level components to the ranges. Course probably kept them afloat
Anyways, just to add the prices

Oh and I believe Charge use it in their lower end Duster frames.
