Orange clockwork sizing

Retro Newbie
Hi there,

New to this forum, and thinking about taking my first plunge into retro biking!

I am looking at an orange clockwork on the for sale forum, but am worried about the sizing so looking for advice.

Its a 19" clockwork from '92 and looks like a very high top tube for the size. Is that going to be a medium, or does anybody know what sizes they came in during that year?

I normally ride a 17" soul or an 18" orange 5. I'm 5'10'

Thanks for any advice!

Z.

I'm 5'10" and I found a 17" Orange too small for me. Orange's came in 15, 17, 19 and 21" sizes, so I'd say a 19" is a M/L. I like a small frame with good standover clearance, but my 17" was too short for my ape like upper body...

Oh yeah, welcome to the site!

Agree with iveto, I had a 17" clockwork in 1992 when I was still at school and although i'm alot taller and older than i was then at 6'0 i grew out of the clockwork long before becoming this tall. I now have an Elite and prev owned a P7 both 19", perfect fit.

Orange

I'm 5ft 10" with a 33" inside leg, ive had several oranges in 17" and 19" and I find the 19" perfect

I found the 17"'to low on the front end

I'm a bit taller then you but also have an 18" 5. Have a 19" Clockwork and it fits me fine. Orange measure centre bb to top of seat tube so check the one you're looking at was measured properly ;)

Im 6'3" anmd had a 21" clochwork[1999] fitted like a glove.Ive tried 18-19" and they just dont feel very comfortable :?

Thanks for the input guys, I am very tempted by this, and from the sounds of what you are saying they size is good, but its just going to have a high standover height. I guess I need to decide if thats something I can live with...

Thanks for the help

5'9"ish and a 31" inside leg, a 17" '98/'99 Clockwork fits me perfectly (the one in my sig below

It is the best fitting bike I own, the other bikes fit me well, but the Orange is bang on for me

whereabouts are you?? i'm sure you could find someone local to you with either a 17 or 19 that you coul try to see.

i'm 5'10"ish and have a 17 that feels slightly too small, a 19 would be perfect for me despite me preferring frames that are slightly on the small side.

you can always play about with crank, stem & post lengths to tune the fit to you but by the sound of other peoples opinion along side my own, it should be absolutely bang on for you.

Which one in the for sale section are you looking at, can't see a 92? If it's either of the ones on the first couple of pages then the stand over might not be as much as you think as the early Clockwork's had quite a short head tube which led to a straight top tube which in turn made the back end look higher then something like a period Kona (if that makes any sense?).

Here's a couple of pictures of my 93 and my old 89. Both the same frame size (19") but look different imo. Note the shorter head tube on the orange/white.
