That's looks really good, nice job, very jealous, Ali stalk and alloy forks go really well with it! Got me in inspired to get my o frame build. :) nice to see a purple one, top job, thanks for sharing. :)

The details..

It is a 1992 model Orange Aluminium-O this is the last year they made them and this type is actually not the last of the last. They had 2 iterations that year and this was the first style. (know as the 3rd style of the 4 styles) All iirc where manufactured in 1991.

The Purple of this is correct for 1994 BUT it is not the £90 optional Purple colour used in the earlier years, that was an Anodised style translucent colour. This is a solid purple and of the type 'use an old stock frame and paint it in this years normal colour'. I think it's a nice colour and hence build with a 1994 groupset.
I'm surprised Orange didn't use LE or SE tags on these as they were not marketed with the other bikes

So are you saying it's a 1992 frame, with a 1994 paint job, built with 1994 first edition STX components ? If that's the case, is it likely this is the only one of its kind. Or would orange have done a handfull ? Can anyone tell me what tyres and saddle it should have on, as I wouldn't mind making it 100% or as close as I can period correct.

Yes.
Replaceable dropout makes it one of the two 1992 batches, riveted cable guides make it the first of them two.
Serial number should start A108 (made august 1991)

Is there another colour under the purple, a satin silver maybe?
The other one I have seen like this, in the same colour, was sprayed over the Ano Purple but that was the next batch of frame.

I would guess they had these knocking around still in 1993 and 1994 and coloured them up for each year, ones not sold in 1993 went back and where just oversprayed. That's my assumption, but hard to prove other than following lots of Orange threads as things crop up.
You may be able to see the undercolour at the seatpost binder clamp or on the rear dropouts with the Q/R removed.

Hum ~1994
Saddle, a Flite, the horrible 'Orange' saddles, many others from that period
Tyres, Panaracer Smoke/Dart, Tioga Psycho, IRC GeoClaw, Onza's Rip/Rail/Aggro..? .. loads. Getting them will be the hard part.

they where often shown in the catalogue with Smokes on.

Re:

It is a bit unusual this one:

Here's my (ex) A108 ride-

screencast

- although the decals aren't the original ones. But the purple paint and decal style is the same is the same as my May 93 Clockwork which I'm currently working on..

So, looks like your Alu O frame was lying unloved for a couple of years at least until it was resprayed and re-decalled. It's irrelavant though - they're very nice to ride if a touch heavy :D
