One more to identify

OldFrank

Retro Guru
Hi, sorry to make my first post a question but...

I've been trying to identify this bike for years now
pics in next post

My info is that it is mid fifties, but I cant get a proper fix on it, a few suggestions of Carlton due to the wrap over seat stay, but apparently the Nervex Pro lugs and the curved brake bridge say probably not carlton. Any ideas. Frame Number is 5543. only 4 digits!

Cheers
All help appreciated

5543 might mean it was the 43rd frame built in 1955. However, the full wrap over seat stay is possibly to modern for 1955?

Stands back to be shot down in flames!

where is frame number stamped? if it is behind the fork crown and on the outside of gear side rear dropout it could be a James Fothergill the sequence looks about right and they used a curved rear brake bridge.

Old Franks Frame

Looks like a MN but ideally MN should be stamped on the BB in front of the numbers. 54 is an extremely early date -Mine is 58. You should contact Alvin Smith at Classic lightweights UK and have it formally recorded as yours has the oldest wrapover stays (earlier than mine) and will be one of the earliest recorded MNs, Further there are only 60 recorded...

If it can be shown to be MN then you are a lucky man...
