On One Parkwood

Re:

The best advert is my DOGS; XO grip shifters and X9 mechs, done HONC, two Mayhems and (last weekend) 65k at MADORC, plus a 50k day ride in Scotland in June and any number of 'normal' mtb rides, all without missing a beat.

I know any number of people can say the same for Shimano equipped bikes, but SRAM tends to attract a fair amount of adverse comment (worse in the roadie world) and I'm never quite sure why, as I've never had any trouble with any of my bikes beyond normal time to time type adjustments.

I have X9 on my 456c. Works brilliantly. Good firm feel to shifters and the mechs too. It's never missed a gear yet in 12 months of use.

I was a total Sram fan boy since 2004/5 when they bought out their trigger shifters. The 1:1 actuation was a revelation after Shimano stuff needing lots of fiddling in the wet.

However I've just switched back because Shimano's clutch mechs are just so much better. The Type 2 mech on my Rune clattered about like a normal mech but the Zee mech on my hardtail is virtually silent. Annoyingly I hate the Shimano shift action...my X0 shifter was lovely to use. A really nice clunky, positive feel. Ultimately I'd rather have a quiet bike.

Re:

Have to say that the clutch mechs that Shimano are putting out are very good...I have both the XT and XTR and they just keep things quiet and next to no chain slap! The Deore 10 speed mechs have it now too and are about £30 and well worth the investment.

Loosely fitted to get idea on stem. This is what it's like with 90mm might try a 60mm. That's what a stock bike came with.

Tapered steerer means my normal 1 1/8th crown race tool doesn't fit. Looking online the cheapest I could find was £40(!) so I improvised/ this is the PERFECT fit

And cost me nothing. Well chuffed.

Looking good but point deducted for Corrie being on the TV!

It does look like a shorter stem is needed though (but I was traumatised when I bought a 65mm stem last week because it's the longest one I've bought in years).

massive loss of cred for knowing it was coronation street.

And I though it was an On One not a Charge COOKER?
