On balance, I still am not a fan of e-bikes (previously known as ‘I just don’t get E bikes’)

I had a go on these ebikes at the weekend, so so so comfy, comfier than my car or sofa.
No mechs, internal hubs (you can get either though) auto shifting if you want. Offroad versions.
This is a pic of the adapted ones, but anyone can ride them or get the standard ice trike one.

Biggest flaw, for a very unfit me who's not ridden for few years, I could still hit 30kph with a bit of effort effort, and cruise just under that.(I guess around the assist cut off).
The assist cut off is noticeable, a bit like when you hit a sudden headwind and have to actually pedal.

So these upright ones, lay back cruise and watch the world in comfort.

Have a go if you ever get the chance.

Now this could tempt me. Cupholders?

Being from the US, the bike industry is really behind in e-bike options and technology as opposed to Europe. At first I was a bit taken back at how people could be 'so damn lazy' while spending 6,7,10...12 thousand Euros on a 'fricking e-bike'. Being here for five years now, I can appreciate how the e-bike has given 'new legs' so to speak for the older folks. People who like to ride bikes, and are of older age who don't want to step on a road bike and be on their wrists all day or simply don't have the stamina now have an option to stay outside longer.

So, when I look at an e-bike as a means to get older people who may get little physical activity, they now have a very convenient option. Just got to watch out for the older guys on the bike path as they can get a bit wild with them, women and children be damned.

For my own personal benefit, cargo e-bikes in these tight European cities is the hot ticket when out running errands.

I can barely remember to charge my lights, phone or earphones so knowing me I'd never get any use out of an e-bike, as I'd wake up, try to turn it on and it'd be horribly low battery so I won't be able to use the highest boost setting to get the full electric moped experience.
I wake up in the middle of the night, and can't go back to sleep until I put the battery on the charger.

Those tadpole trikes are super fast and comfy. But not a good idea in city traffic. The little flag doesn't do much good in traffic. Too wide to shoot for gaps or ride paths and sidewalks (suburban not in the city). Bike lanes too. On an Ebike you can sit straight up and see what's going on around you. maybe the biggest advantage for city riding.

had a chap nearly run me over yesterday cross the locks, in no way was his ebike legal, the lack of pedals being an obvious reason.
Tadpole trikes are great. Feel a bit vulnerable that low though. I only rode one for a few hundred yards though.
After a few million miles that goes away.

One of the things we say in the high powered E bike forums is "don't ride like an ass". It's bad for all of us. I always ride the speed a fit cyclist would be going in that situation. But in rush hour traffic drivers are actually happier if I can keep up with traffic. Just about everyone has a car that can run at illegal speeds. Why when they get on an Ebike they turn into A holes IDK?
