Olympics MTB Course Video

i dont understand the negativity personally - if id ridden it and thought it was crap id say so, as would a good many of the journos that have ridden it - the majority of them turned up with the same attitude. its a good course for racing which is what its for.

mate, peoples opinions are based on what has been seen so far. and thats a short video, and the video, hasnt done it any favours.

Secondly why does everyone think wales is a better place...

Open your minds a bit here guys it is a good xc race course, which is exactly what its designed for...

Because the Olympics are an exhibition and a legacy for the country they are held in. Not sure that course will inspire many, unlike a course designed to showcase some of the natural beauty and terrain that the UK has to offer, both to current and prospective riders.

The idea of getting the Olympics to London, and therefore the UK was, as far as I was aware - and I'm very happy to be corrected here - to promote the UK and to promote the idea of sport as a way of life - a lasting legacy.

fair dos...

the real shame though is that not many people are going to be able to ride the course in its current guise, and tbh if you could ride it before the olympics which would have given people a better appreciation of what theyre watching, but then again i guess people dont get freereign on the 100m course or whatever.

as i said this course is designed tobe raced on and totally visible on tv. literally metres away from this course are routes that tick all the boxes youve mentioned. It would make for a more challenging exciting race rather than the crashfest Im expecting to see! Trouble is getting cameras into some of the areas being ridden in.

As to the argument about why theyre where they are I got the feeling at the time a lot of people sat back and expected to be given the race but essex cc came up with the biggest brown envelope... ;)

What a shame.

I thought the Olympics was all about sports men and women from all corners of the globe coming together for one big sporting carnival to see who is the best of the best.

Turns out I'm wrong, it's actually all about entertaining the masses. Odd, as that's what i thought Hollywood did. Oh well, guess I shall stick with individual sport's world events. And to think yesterday the News were talking about a European 'Olympics' - no thanks!

Oh, Seb and Co(e), you can stick your Olympics up yer 'arris.

Many XC races have been pretty much exactly that. At least this one has some vaguely technical bits, however contrived (and of arguable challenge) they may be. It's notoriously hard to tell how tricky a trail is from photos or video, although a couple of those sections look on a par with bits of Dalby that some of the pros struggled with at the World Cup.

I think my problem is that it just looks so artificial and prescribed. It seems very narrow, there is no space for a rider to make a decision as to what line to take. There seem to be no natural obstacle at all. No water, or tree roots or overhanging branches. It just seems really sterile.
