old members and were have they gone

pickle has had a busy year with setting up a business. he has other stuff going on too but i know for a fact he still has a retro fire burning and still has his stumpjumper.

i am keeping his rts warm. he knows he is missed on here and did post about a month ago.

Speaking of old members, did anyone have any dealings with Dathan Wells in Toronto? Pretty distinctive name, and I know he did a lot of wheeling and dealing with guys on the continent.

What ever happened to SLIM?
He was the first post in the” Introduce Yourself Here” thread, former BOTM winner and clocked up a fair few posts. I swapped a few emails and PMs with him about Pro-Flex bikes and frames, then he seemed to just disappear?

i don't think people deliberately stay off the forum, i think life just gets in the way and internet forums become less important to them.

i find myself posting less on certain threads, stuck seatpost threads for example, i don't bother with those anymore, someone will always post the link to sheldon or a link to one of the many previous solutions etc. so maybe those people are here still but just not posting.

also i used to look through almost every thread when i first joined here but now i am more selective as to what i look at.

it's always nice to see an old username turn up though.

:)

Yes there's only so many ways to free a stuck post, and a limit to how many times you want to read about it ;)

I'd have to say that the number of e wars over high end vs low end became rather tedious at times and quality topics seemed to decline for a reasonable period too...

Few reasons my visits have become less frequent

Took ages getting my Marin Team Issue back to as it was when new, big sense of disappointment when I finally got there and subsequently sold it

Severe lack of the old hidden gems that were there to be found a few years back, too many people started seeing it as a business, goodly amount of them on here i'm sorry to say

Updated my Merlin Mountain so it was no longer a garage queen and remembered how much I enjoyed riding it rather than looking at it

Health worsened a bit and found myself enjoying photography rather a lot, probably a better bet as I get older

Lastly and this is only my opinion found this forum became like lots of others with some stroppy keyboard warriors that have seen too many Danny Dyer type programmes. Use to love it here, it really was very friendly and scammer free especially people taking karma type parts to sell on ebay.
Inevitable I suppose as it grew, missed some of the older members who also left for whatever reason

Still enjoy popping in, but very much a part timer now
