Old = cheap

I'm sure this isn't news to anyone, but I've just been gathering a few bits to get a bike into a ridable state for OWMTBC and was struck by the very affordable nature of stuff that most people don't want :) Shimano 122mm square taper BBs - £7.99. Ritchey brake pads for cantis - £3/pr. Running costs = low :)

Yep, that's why I enjoy our hobby so much. As long as I keep away from the really rare or tasty stuff I can collect parts and build a mid to high end retro bike for a couple of hundred quid, then get my money back when I sell. 8)

Pretty much found the couple of bikes I'm happy with for rides so now I enjoy collecting parts over time and doing different builds. Doesn't brake the bank and keeps me out of the pub. :D

I couldn't agree more. Do you know, there was a chap on here last week saying he was bored with his Orange 5 with added toys and his titanium bike, so he was looking to buy an 853 Pace or Orange R8 - with £600 Fox, Hopes etc naturally. Must be made of money, that geezer! :P

:oops: :oops: :oops: Didn't say I was bored with the 5, just that I was thinking about a new one. Sell the 5, sell the Vit = Most of a new 5 or a full R8. Can't have both and had a moment of weakness. My 5 has forgiven me now. :wink: I've no money but do have value in bikes that I can recycle. :D

Why would you want to keep out of the pub??

Having lavished more dosh than I care to mention on my toy modified car, now sold, my return to cycling has saved me a fortune.

All 3 of my bikes are relatively cheap (most expensive one estimated at about £450) and as a side benefit, I feel healthier and no longer get a partial erection when I sit next to an RS4, RS6, M3, TVR Tamora etc.etc. at traffic lights knowing full well that they'll come second when the lights go green! :P

Don't want to but if I partied as much as I wanted to I'd be a real mess. :roll: :lol:
