OK.... one iMac now on order.... now what?

I have been amazed in the two and a half years I have had mine.

I went with the 500gb hard drive as to give me plenty of room in a MS kinda way but every update I get seems to reduce the OS size :D

Interesting to hear Tony's comment on the anti virus software - never looked into it as though Apples were immune

They are not immune it's just that the writers of Viruses etc want to cause maximum harm and to do that it's better to attack Windows based PC's, not because they are easier to attack but most importantly there are many, many more of them out there- so the hackers are assured of a much bigger bang for their buck!

you could run Windows under Virtualbox for any applications that are just windows based.

True you can. But then why buy a Mac? The software is the main reason. The looks should be second
It's not about looks, Tintin. The Mac's operating system is based on Unix, which dates from the late 60s. Back then, security measures like user accounts were built into Unix from the ground up because it ran on multi-user, time-shared systems.

Today, I access my Mac thru an ordinary 'user' account rather than an 'admin' account and this means that I can't accidently do serious damage to the operating system. Neither can any program that I use. This setup provides great security and reliability, irrespective of the Mac's looks.

Also buy ant-virus they can still get nasty things
"Nasty things" only get into the Mac when somebody provides the admin-level username and password, and that's usually given during software installs. Hence, the only nasty things to have infected a Mac have been concealed inside pirate software and p*rn viewing software. If you avoid those, you're pretty much in the clear.

(There was a scare when it was revealed that Flash animations on webpages could be used to access the data on a Mac, but Adobe worked quickly to close that loophole. Nonetheless, a mistrusting Apple have configured the web browser on the iPhone and iPad so that it won't play any Flash animations. ;) )

Good call going for a Mac. Lovely bit of kit.

Just think, you will never again have to press 'start' to make it stop :D

Nice choice! You'll love your new iMac and it'll sure to love you back :)

Have owned a Mac now for the past 12 years or so, seems like forever. Probably wouldn't even know how to switch one of those pc things on tbh.
The journey has been pretty much trouble free all the way. Any problems encountered have always been quickly sorted by myself with no worries with a quick search of the web.
My Powerbooks coming up to 5 years old and still works just how it should albeit showing it's age with older system software. Would love a new iMac though to come bang up to date.. Very jealous!
It's a cool investment

My Mac's a pile of old tosh now. Four years old, knackered DVD drive. Mind you, I still think IT'S BRILLIANT! I was trained on pcs and what a load of old poo that was.
I'll get the Mac repaired soon but not at one of their fanboy outlets ( very creepy and script-following staff ). I'm off to Western Computers where prices are flexible and the staff are easily bribed with choccy Hobnobs.

I have been the proud owner of a macbook pro 13 now for two months and I am to say the least, impressed, it just works, does what it is meant to do and I have been told mine is pretty heavily loaded up with art college related software too.

It has crashed once in two months, but when I restored the function I was so surprised to find I had not lost any work at all, quite unlike a pc in that respect which ditches anything unsaved.

But the transition from five years of pc to mac has been ok so far, for they are very intuitive and the apple website is very useful.

Also perhaps worth joining Mac Forums.com, as they are very useful sometimes.
