a while back i built my wife a bike to get her riding.
a baby pink kona kula.
came in the other day to find this exercise bike.
she told me she feels safer on the exercise bike.

That's 'cus the stem on the Kona is well long.
Or 'cus there's no traffic or trees by the side of the exercise bike.

is the frame too small? - look how long the stem is and how far the saddle is positionsed.

i did get her a 16" frame but she told me it felt too big, so that is why i got the 14" frame. she's only ridden it once since built, so not really had a chance to change the stem.

its safer because the ironing wont fall off (when she hangs it on )
like my wife does

...and basically, whilst she may have said she'd like to go out riding with you, she didn't really mean it; you're supposed to stay in more... ;)

I think steveo is right, perhaps you need a second excercise bike so you can go riding together ;)
