BITD we used to attach the derailleur to the frame with special breakway bolts for this very reason, when the mech goes often it takes the mech hanger with it, a breakaway bolt just shears and saves the frame.

I still replace the standard Shimano bolt with a breakaway bolt whenever I fit derailleurs and that because I don't want to knacker my frame and coming in pretty ano colours they add a bit of difference, all that for a tenner.

Middleburn no less ( the only bit of Middleburn I was able to afford bitd) ;

As to the dropout, in the past with bikes, pre mtb bikes, a bent mech hanger and also a bent drop out, because I bent them too, I used to realign using an adjustable spanner closed over the metal and just twist by trial and error until it was in line and usable again. Really stubborn jobs required the blow torch.
