Does anyone else have constant bad luck with eBay?! I'm getting royally fed up of it

I bought a 1997 Kona Cindercone off eBay over the weekend, which was a bit of mis-mash of parts. Advert: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171716467785? ... EBIDX%3AIT

I received it yesterday and stripped the bike down this evening so I could give everything a good clean and refit some nicer parts. I have rubbed the paint down off the repainted section, hoping to find the majority to still have its original paint underneath. Which was all going well until I got to the dropouts and found it's been rewelded in two places

Bit gutted to be honest. The seller mentioned in the ad that the frame had been painted in a section, but that there was no repair. Looks like it has been to me.

Humph.

Funny that ,i bought a kona a while back of ebay.It cost me £30 in fuel to go and pick it up ,only to find it had been welded, much like yours..
Worse thing was the guy wasn't in and i had to deal with the wife, who wasn't interested.
I tryed to buy it cheaper for parts but she wouldn't have it.so i left it.
Total waste of time and money..

Re:

I saw that ad and did wonder as I know of several that have gone there. Total pain for you though....

Surely at the end of the day it's 'not as described' as he definitively stated there was no repair? I know it means putting it all back together again and pretending you hadn't stripped it, but is it worth pursuing with ebay and getting some of your cash back...?

Re:

Contact the seller and ask for some money off

Repair looks okay to me so get it powder coated or just leave it and enjoy it

One of the plus points of steel is its repairable, so embrace it!

Thanks for the replies. The bike had some useful xt parts on so hopefully the seller will give me a partial refund and I can use the bits on my Lava Dome. Bit of a disappointment, but hopefully something can be redeemed from the situation.

Re:

Still a pain though mate. Good luck, hope he gives you a decent refund without arguing about it. Had a similar thing happen to me a couple of times and always done alright out of it in the end...

Re:

It's probably been repaired carefully, by someone taking pride in it, rather than when it was mass produced in a factory, so is actually a positive :D

I like your perspective on this :)

I've asked for a partial refund. I'll fit some of the parts to my Lava Dome and pack the Cinder Cone away for now and possibly get it tidied up and powder coated and some stage.

Re:

My recent experience of ebay is to open a case against the seller stating the item was 'not as described'. They will always side with the buyer, just as long as your prepared to send the item back. So, open a case with ebay and you'll get your money back no problem. Best of luck , H

Re:

I had a Rock Lobster fail in exactly the same place (not a proper Sadoff one, I'll add!). I took it to a marine welders, and they re-brazed it for me. I had no concerns riding it hard after, and it's still going strong as far as I'm aware.
