Anyone have any spare ODI MUshroom grips? Black, Purple, Clear? Or know any dealers stocking them?
Thanks in advance.

Mushrooms

Thanks but they are not original Mushrooms. A lot of dealers refer to the waffle grip pattern as Mushrooms, but the originals have no flanges and closed ends (i.e. plugs built in) These were designed and ridden by John Tomac. They then went on to make the ODI attacks, same pattern but open ends for bar ends. The modern ones are for BMX and MX and are shorter/much heavier/have a big flange on them.

Got these but have been trimmed for Gritslip shifters in the past, would they have looked like this?

Point taken, you need the mountainbike ones...

but BenBonty's right...[mild pedantry warning] IIRC I had ODI Mushroom BMX grips on my 1986 mountainbike, open ends for plastic sliders (now Thug Plugs) and flanges trimmed for thumbie clearance...Mushrooms are the BMX and MX grip, which came first.[/pedantry]

I think what you're after is an Attack.

It was lanched in 1989 as the ODI Tomac, then changed to the ODI Tomac Attack in 1990, then dropped the Tomac name by 1995 as Johnny T's stock was dropping...

All the best,

ODI ATTACK GRIPS

The Attack bike grip is made of a molded Kraton-type rubber compound in Ornate Designs San Diego plant. The grip is rather thin so it can be used with a gloved hand and still give a full sense of control of the bike. (While there has been some lore developed around its origin involving a racing personality, the Attack grip is really a variation on a grip well known to any BMX racer from the 1980's called the ODI "Mushroom". The Mushroom grip was an original ODI design that had a large inner flange and a somewhat smaller outer flange, which were removed to "create" the Attack. As it turns out, the racing personality associated with the Attack grip was a BMX rider in the 1980's, but only really became successful as he moved to mountain bike racing.) The inner and has a groove for wire or zip tie fastening. The palm area has a spiral groove molded around it, that threads around the grip from one end to the other. The spiral provides "give" in the grip to make it comfortable, while water to slide through the grooves and drop off the bottom of the grip. The outer end is round and closed off with extra thickness to help prevent the end from tearing in a fall. Made in Blue, Black, Clear, Lavender, Translucent Blue, or Translucent Lavender. They weigh 93 grams per pair, have a durometer hardness of A/49, and are 4.9 inches long. Made in USA.

I can get any current ODI grips but there is nothing like the Attack grip in the current range, unfortunately.

How much more like an ODI Attack are you after? :?

Attacks are $8.95/pr mail order from ODIdirect.
They're still churning them out just the same 20 years on, except now they're any colour you like as long as it's black. :)

ISONhave the Attack currently in stock at £9.99 RRP, or £8 from Wiggle, in stock.

All the best,
