Russell, good on you, not so shy about posting now are you, stick with it and you'll enjoy the place a bit more. I only put the
;) in to annoy, not an attempt to hide my contempt behind emoticons

So, just in case telling me to **** off didn't annoy me, you added a 'wink' aswell to make sure?

Well done you.

Whooooa. People -remember. They're only old bikes. It's not like we're all curing cancer here. Just saying.....

Was that frame not advertised here a few days back :? Just out of its packaging for photos etc, his mate owned it, someone commented on matching fence panels and seat  £120 NOS bargain type ad?

I'm sure it will build up into a fine shopper or wall art.

Nope - ok not wall art then

Bike snobbery has no place on retrobike, 'if it's old school it's in' end of.
Couldn't agree more , people will always have different views but this is Retrobike.co.uk and not icanaffordtospendloadsofmoneyonoldbikesandyoucan't.co.uk if people don't like the cheaper stuff they don't have to look

I don't quite understand the people who spend a lot of time and effort rebuilding a low(ish) end Raleigh or Claude Butler, a bit like people who are members of the Hillman Hunter Owners Club. It wasn't great back in the day and won't be much better now.

I like older bikes mainly as I hate the look of decent affordable bikes nowadays. I refuse to pay hundreds for some of the ones that look OK though. And rather sadly it reminds me of being younger and I like the fact I recognize the names of the component manufacturers.

However there is a very bizarre version of snobbery that exists on here from a percentage of people. For example an old Peugeot can be seen as cool when we all know it wasn't very good in the first place, but a post Trek Klein or Bontrager will be derided. I think we all know which is actually the good bike.

I vote for a secret forum for all that want it, more room for the white trash like me, and those that want to keep the standards high can cuddle up and keep warm in their draughty ivory towers

Thought so.......

However as folks are pointing out - its not the £££ you spend - its where it can take ya .....

Althougn the blue one was a freebie from my neighbour ;)

Now, back to the gossip - who's told who to f'off

think it should be relisted
something along the lines of "the frame that launched a 1000 posts
well 46 so far

that frames got provenance now

i am proud to have built some very low cost bikes.

i am also quite pleased that i bought a low end saracen, did absolutely nothing to it other than clean and tweak, and then receive praise on it. (i have since done things to it)

i dont want to replace my dog shit bikes (modern dog shit inbred included) for one bike that one man says is of a decent calibre.

i would love to find an early 90's claude butler dog shit bike. they were the stuff of dreams when i was growing up and i intend to own one
