Nos 82 mountain goat dilema **update**

If it's just a plain colour it is to be painted then you'd have to be as daft as anything to send it all the way to the States for a job that can be done just as well here.

If it's a fancy paint scheme you are wanting then the original painter would be a very tempting option.

Personally I'd send it to Jonrock and instruct him: "go nuts!!"

^^ agreed. As has been mentioned before whoever does it, it will always be a 2012 paintjob and not an original 80's paintjob.

Some people may disagree but I think that what you have here is a golden opportunity to create a unique bike. How rare is it to get a NOS bare frame? Time and time again on here there is the old debate of 'the paintjob is a bit tired....should I repaint or keep the original'? Now you don't have that dilemma, you have a bare frame, so you don't have to worry about removing or changing an original paintjob. Sure Russ may or may not have done the original had it been done in 82 and of course he would do a great job and add value (althought not as much as it costs I bet) were he to do it now, but it would still be a new pickett paintjob and not a vintage one, therefore go mad and let jonrock or someone else have the chance to make history and create something unique that will create it's own story for future generations. At the end of the day you could always get Russ to do it in a few years time, it will still be a new paintjob then too so....

He who dares Chris ....he who dares. Makes history....!!

The more I think on this the more I feel "if it was mine I'll leave it as it is, don't paint it and don't build it- how rare is a original none painted frame from one of the old masters? If you paint a frame like this you can't see the craftsmanship and how many original unpainted MG's are there?"

This frame is for looking at - not to be build or ridden (I think...)

I think the original maker of the frame would be saddened by this suggestion. Bikes are for riding, end of story, no matter how rare or unique or unused or fancy a paint job.

Agreed, photos are for looking at, bikes are for riding. In this case both are possible :D

Welll I had the frame and forks sent to Russ and after much deliberating I decided on a two tone green paint job with smoke effect

When Russ received the frame he emailed me to say that the front end had been replaced and that it was not done by mountain goat. Also that the cable guides were wrong for the frame :(

I told him that I had bought it as a nos never been painted frame and he said that as well as the front being replaced the rear had previously been painted and shot blasted so definitely not nos.

Needless to say I contacted the seller armed with Russ' info and he quite fairly said I could either have a partial refund and get Russ to sort the frame out or return the frame for a full refund. I opted for the full refund as to me even if Russ had sorted the frame it just wouldn't of been a genuine deluxe which is what I've been looking for.

So on with the quest, I will get one at some point in the future :?

I just want to thank Doug (ndaand) for speaking directly with Russ for me and Sky for being so understanding and taking the frame back.

It's just really lucky that I decided on a Russ paint job cause if it had gone anywhere else I doubt I'd of found out that it was a cut'n'shut!

Bad luck Chris, though it's good you found out and the seller was happy to refund.

Good luck with the continued search.
