Attended the NAHBS his weekend. Carpooled with Chris Chance, and saw just about every American framebuilder in the retro pantheon. Best bike show I have ever been to.

Got to Tom Ritchey's booth too late to join Gary Fisher there; I was hoping to get a photo of all three of us but I had to settle for this one. Maybe I shoulda trimmed the beard before the show. Now people will think I'm a hippie.

the guy who is building my frame is over there at the moment with a stall, Tom Warmerdam, he is Demon frameworks, did you see his stuff? curious on your opinion (and joe, chris and ross if they saw his stuff) i think he had a road bike and a track/fixie only though. the mtb frame he is building for me is only his 3rd (?) mtb frame i think.

i'd like to get to this show at some point, maybe next year

Good eye! Yes, his name is Steve Wilde and when he worked for Gary and before he put on the last 40 lb he was often mistaken for the G-Man. Steve rode with Chris and me to the show. He is also a founding member of our old bike club, Velo-Club Tamalpais

The obvious question is did Chris Chance attend for reasons other than to catch up with old acquaintances?

He likes looking at cool bikes and so do I. We bought tickets at the door ($22) like the common folk, but once inside we were not treated that way.

Although we saw a lot of longtime friends, that was a bonus, since I didn't expect to run into so many. In addition to those in the photos, we saw Steve Potts, who won an award for the best ti bike, Scot Nicol, Gary Helfrich, Bruce Gordon, Chris Igleheart, and a lot of old friends whose names would not be familiar across the pond.

All but one mountain bike on display were hardtail, most with factory forks.
