No love for Marin?

Always did like Marins; been very tempted by the early FSR's since they came out but never succumbed. The only one I will buy is a red 80's Palisades Trail like wot I had BiTD (missed out on the exact one on eBay last year; went for next to nowt but I couldn't get to Colchester to collect... )

Been keeping an eye on sales for an early to mid 90's Pine Mountain or Indian Fire Trail frame, but have never seen one in the time I've been looking.
Steel Konas by the score, the odd Clockwork and P1 but no Marins. Why is this? People keep hold of them, or just not rated? I had a Pine Mountain BITD, and always regretted selling it.
I've often wondered this myself. There's no doubt that many more Marins were sold in the early 90s than Konas, so where are they now?

I don't think there's any lack of love for them, as many people either owned one BITD or wished they could. My own theory is that Marins look more 'traditional' with their relatively flat top tubes, while Kona/Paul Brodie hit on the sloping top tube look that has turned out to become the norm for MTB - hence retro Konas look 'right' to the modern eye.

This seems to me to be compounded by the fact that you never seem to see smaller Marins for sale, they're all larger sizes - plus Marins had long top tubes, so they're really quite big bikes with less of a market. This still doesn't answer the question about what happened to them all though.

I'm sure a local retrobiker would help you out with postage ;)

Noooooooo, I'm currently looking round my house/garage for things to stick on ebay to pay for my frame being powdercoated!

Interesting link to the nickel one. That's what I had. I swapped an earl Proflex for the (practically brand new) Pine. Ended up putting my RC35s on it and it was just the dogs!

Don't all jump on me for being OCD but the Marin's were FRS, the Specialized were FSR ;)

Funny you should say that, just realised my error whilst looking at another thread...

I like them too. I have SS Pallisades although all the orginal is the chain ring, frame, forks, stem and handlebars. Everything else had to be replaced. All in including powder coating it cost £200 to build, not bad for what is essentially a brand new bike.

What I like about them most is the fact that they are cheap and as good to ride as any Kona, infact I prefer the ride over my Kona.

Early Marins are like Ford Cortinas and Sierras. Everywhere at once then the next minute, they all vanish with just the odd wreck/ minter appearing in the classifieds.

Marin Love

I was lucky enough to get a 93 IFT frame on here last year. Built it up with every intention of moving it on. I've fallen in love with it after a couple of rides so its a definately a keeper. I presume others feel the same hence why they rarely appear for sale.
