.....after saying that I'd better upgrade my helmet or downgrade my head

I have a very low spec head TBH, but as it's the size of a beachball and an unusual shape the only helmet that would fit was an expensive one... :D

i wouldn't worry about people riding without helmets, as I usually find that the people riding without helmets on their heads these days are adequately protected by the huge knob they have there instead...

About 95% of my cycling life has been helmet-less  I guess that applies to a good many of us.

I've been lucky though, as have many others over the years.

However when faced with the choice of being able to eat a juicy steak or veg curry, or being forced to drink soup through a straw for the rest of my life - I know which I'd prefer :p

I have two helmets now (well three ;) )

Plus if you jump out with out a parachute then you will die.

But if you ride with out a helmet then you wont die or get hurt.

You could get hurt or die with or without a helmet, as well you know, just like you can get hurt or die whether or not you choose to use your seatbelt.
But use of a helmet or seatbelt might, if the worst comes to the worst, reduce your chances of serious injury or death so what's not to like here? Not rocket science, is it?
But if you don't want to wear one, then don't - don't attend any Retrobike rides either. Neither are compulsory.

It's this sort of nonsense that gives the pro-helmet argument a bad name.

There is no argument, only personal opinion.

It's true, but there are people in positions of real influence who would have laws made based on their opinion. So the argument has its place :)

How exactly would the Tommy Cooper Fez Go-fast type helmets assist either of the riders pictured/highlightd earlier in this thread.. just pre face plant. Presumably the manafacturers have data suggesting riders heads collide well goalside of thier eyebrow-line.

I can't recall ever seeing a helmet of any kind that looked remotely like a fez

I can recall plenty of helmets where i can see the riders ears and temples, i always ask 'em what exactly will stop these areas getting fractured into very small pieces and i've never yet had an answer.

PS...i was once told chin/ear protection was for downhill riding, though when i asked if the helmet was aware of this mantra the conversation faded.fast.
