Night riding - recommend me a light

As this is Retrobike you really should be using retro lights. Ever Ready made fantastic front and rear lights Both the size of a shoebox. Same lumen power as one firefly that has a very bad hangover

I had a set, doubled the weight of mt cast iron 5 speed road bike

We'll need proof of purchase and beam shots taken whilst out on a ride ;)

Beam shots may be tricky unless you have a camera with a light sensitivity similar to that of the Hubble space telescope. :p

I use Cree Q5 lights both front and rear bought off eBay. I bought two headlights and a rear but have never needed to use the second light as one seems bright enough. If I was doing some night trail riding though I would probably use the second one. Cost me about £12 if I remember rightly.

Re:

What are people using this winter ? Dont want to spend silly money but want 3hrs ride time, reliability, plenty of lumens :? Had a look at all the recent reviews but they conflict. Magicshines look quite good also interested in a decent helmet light.

Re:

Magicshine MJ-872 for about £80 online. Full beam is stupid bright, and is really only necessary when taking part in 'my light is brighter than your light' contests. I generally run it at 50% (which is plenty) with the odd burst up to 75% for any descent/technical bits, and haven't had any battery concerns. There is a report on road.cc where the reviewer claims to have gotten 6.5h including 1.5h at 100%. Mine is bar mounted, but easily small enough to mount on your helmet and run the battery into a jersey/jacket pocket.
