I was thinking about the Pendle Witches as well although it is on Easter Sunday. Like you say, a lot cheaper then a Sportive. It takes in Nick O' Pendle (amongst others!) so a low gear will be required. Do you think 38 x 28 will do? I've never been there - which could be a good thing!

Pity about L'Eroica site, I hope they can sort it out.

If I do it my lowest would be 42/28 so I better get out there and find a local hill that's similar and get some training in. It looks short-ish and steep - there's a few round here that fit that description!

Have you downloaded the entry form yet from the site? I have, ages ago, but it's still on my desk. Shall we do it? With Household Authority permission of course.

I think we should go for it. I've got provisional approval as long as I can drop the family off somewhere interesting for a few hours while we whizz round.

Looking at "the Nick" on mapmyride it seems like it's a mile or so of torture at an average of just over 9% - not too bad.

I think I'm going to have a crack at Pendle Witches this year - I chickened out last year, but I've spent the intervening period coming to terms with the idea that some hills are for walking

I was in Ken Foster's Cycle Logic in Chorlton on my Viking and the gents behind the counter handed me a flyer on the strength of that. The scenery along the route looks cracking...

Well if folk from as far away as the eastern prairies are making the long trek over to cotton mill country we'll make it a National RetroBIKE squad.

Old Ned: How can we help persuade Mrs Ned that you really cannot miss this important gathering of the RetroBike clans?

Have you actually been to the prairie(panhandle)? It's certainly not like the Lincolnshire Wolds.

I confess I was using a massive amount of poetic licence there RK. No doubt any residents of Rossendale would also balk at the "cotton mill" reference.

I've only briefly visited the Wolds a couple of times and that was for work rather than leisure so had no time to appreciate the beauty of the area. If I ever get back into touring it would be on my list as it's only a 2 day ride from here and would make a good route to get to the coast.
