Next Year's (now This Year's) Classic Rides

Good work bobbinogs - that was rocket ship fast. I've e-mailed the organisers about the photos - I had a chat with the photographers in the pub afterwards butin my addled state forgot to ask them about where to pick up the pictures from.

I wish we had another ride booked in for next weekend - I can feel a proper wave of withdrawal comong on.

Was first home on a classic or modern?

A chap on a very nice modern carbon bike, can't remember the make, may have been Kuoto. Hence, I had hoped (somewhat sentimentally) that we would roll in together, modern and old.

To be fair the bloke did well making up the 10 mins grace we got although I spent my ten mins just stuffing piece after piece of the excellent banana cake and nattering with the chatty organiser at the feedstop. Wasn't that little girl fantastic too, making all those excellent birdsnest cakes. Brilliant. I hope the event made a mint for the hospice charity. Roll on next year.

Yeah, that was me. Sorry didn't twig who was who at the time.

That's a pity - I was actually going to ask you if you'd seen Retrobike!

You did a great ride for someone who is just 'trying to get a bit fitter'.

Bobbinogs - you did an excellent ride as well. All those Audax events paying off - and the Devon hills the week before. Worth your long drive I'd say.

Goldie, sorry to have missed you. What number were you? Any link to your photo so I can recognise you next time?

Didn't meet my same name 'alter ego' either. He was 108 so if anyone finds his photo please let me know. ;)

Here's photos of the other RB'ers in the event, taken on Nick O'Pendle.

First - and first over the climb - Bobbinogs, smiling obscenely at the camers. Anyone would think it was easy!

Next is Daccordimark doing his Pantani 'climbing on the drops' impression.

Kerplunk seemingly taking it easily in his stride

And then me in 'why am I doing this!' mode.

Still, I got my own back on the carbon modernistas on the descents. A heavy steel bike is always an asset - gravity sucks!

Far, far away in the distance is the start of the climb in Sabden village.

And this was only one of the climbs...................................

That was absolutely ace - on that first decsnt into Padiham I found myself freewheeling past a flashy Specialized with no better explanation for it than that the laws of gravity had been tweaked in my favour, or that my all pie training diet had paid off.

Pigman: Yes, it's my Aerospace alright - I'm really chuffed with how it did, but blimey I'd be happy to have a wider cage on the Titlist front derailleur - spent all day trimming it so it didn't catch. I don't notice it round where I live because I never have to change gear!
