It's quite RED and yes, that is the original paint.

That's the weird one. . .

It's a British Eagle. It rides beautifully. Comfy. Neutral.

Just gets on with it in a drama-free way.

I'm sure his new owner will be very happy with him

In its day the British Eagle Touristique was a great bike...then the brand got cheapened and devalued to zero...how old is yours?

British Eagle Touristique

:D That's a nice bike - check out my next post to see what a British Eagle Touristique looked like ... rides very, very well.

Your bike is probably a sports version of the same frame (no braze-ons for mudguards/carriers/cantilever brakes etc.)

:D This is my 1990 British Eagle Touristique - of course this picture was taken a while ago - about 3 weeks ago. It's largely standard - replaced the 38 tooth bio-pace Exage 500 chainring for a round one & added new casette/chain/bottom bracket bearings (105SC) when worn out - 1995. The standard bar tape wore out as well - it was white! I use Specialised Commuter 700c x 28mm at about 100 psi for fast commuting/touring/wet weather training.

It is a beautifully neutral ride, very stable and comfortable, but can be "chucked" about a bit too! Handles fast downhills better than my Holdsworth "racer" - had one over 50 m.p.h. with full panniers, and not so much as a shimmy at the front wheel.

I have an '85(?) Coventry Eagle Touristique. It's rusty and a project for the summer. I made some cosmetic changes to it in the early 90s (the white handlebar tape and cable housings were replaced with red ones to match the trim on my Carradice pannier and bar bag).

I also changed my Stronglight (?) chainset for a Deore Biopace and replaced the front & rear derailleurs, hubs and pedals with Deore.

I took it for a short tour last summer, but the guy in my LBS worried me talking about the degree of corrosion that had built up. So I've got an aluminium winter/Audax bike until the Eagle flies again.
