If it's got a new serial number on it, then it's probably stolen-recovered. I seem to remember when the police had their occasional sales of bikes that had been recovered but not claimed, they'd put a new serial number on if none existed. On motorbikes, the prefix the frame number with 'POL' or similar if it's there, dunno if they do the same with bicycles.
So if it was stolen previously, it was most likely legit by the time the previous owner bought it. The BB shell would be the logical place for them to put a new serial, I guess.

Couldn't wait any longer for parts to arrive so have put some parts back on and I'm very happy with how she's coming on
No show pony that's for sure, only new part will be a nice new HG71 chain the postman delivered today.
The forks still need stripping and the hunt is on for replacement elastomers. Ideally I'll use the Pace so I can mount the Magura brake without any extra expense and it matches the Pace front hub, but I also have a nice Judy FSX kicking about which would give me extra and smoother travel. Problem is its got a 1 1/8" ahead steerer on removable crown at least.
Saddle is planned for another project but who knows, it may stay.

Right, I stupidly didn't realise the steerer is 1 1/8" not 1" so the lovely Syncros stem I bought is now for sale. This has opened up the opportunity for me to use the Judy FSX I have laying about. Would it be wrong to put the newer fork and an aheadset and stem on this?
I will still be using the Magura up front so just bought the mounting kit.
Anyone after a PACE RC35 with Magura specific brace?

Aheadset featured early on GT bikes so why not (1992 for the '93 model year?)

Progress has been slow in the wait for parts but thanks to Lee (Kult Fiction) she now has XT qr's and a lovely XT M730 chainset, the Sugino Fuse 500 was in great condition but felt it needed black rings.
The more modern front end of Judy FSX's and ahead parts is just wait a silver Chris King a headset set from eBay and Syncros stem swapped in a deal on here
I cannot wait for the 1st ride!
I'll get some Smoke Darts on it but the colour of the Splashbacks goes well with the saddle.
Unsure whether to add 1991 or 1992 decals as cannot say which year it was. What's everyone thoughts?

Apparently those Splashbacks are terrible to ride on regardless of colour matching...
Decals need to scream 'ZASKAR' in big **** off letters on the down tube
