I thought I'd add this link to my retro Alves. Built in 1989 with 531 atb tubing. WTB hubs, IRD switchback brakes, IRD Ti forks, It originally had an IRD seat post and front brake too. The seatpost was the only part that failed. I think I still have an original set of Suntour XC pro pedals and a pair of XT pedals and toe clips. Spds appeared later in the year but I was too much of a retrogrouch to change to them at the time. I loved the original XC thumbshifters, and Campagnolo Brake levers.
I'll have a look for some original build pics and a magazine article in which it got a mention.
