Hi guys I'm looking for a semi decent mountain bike,my knowledge is currently zero no I could go to the local halfords and pick a new bike up for £100 but I know I could get a second hand bike that's upgraded and looked after so my budget is around £150 I've seen a few bikes recently that have caught my attention out of this lot what would you go for .. Or any other recommendations
Gt avalanche 2
Schwinn rocket 88
Muddy fox hustle

Cant go wrong with a GT,Kona or Specialized as a first bike.......plenty come up in the FS section too.

Dont go to Halfords!!

.........oh and welcome

Cheers for the reply,I'm liking the look of the gt avalanche seen one in white and it looks pretty decent ,I know about halfords basic Apollo bikes are £160 and I know what I'm looking at are second hand but most bikes are loved and looked after so I'm not bothered about that and I'm getting a better bike for my money

Hi, your right your get a much better bike from here for the same price as a brand new thing from halfords. Suggestion would be to do a more specific wanted thread about your needs in the title.

Main things are what size do you need?

Just remember that these will be used bikes so even though they are better, even a great nick 15 year old frame may have scrapes. If have found the sellers on here pretty honest TBH. But I would still suggest you set aside some of your budget for potential small niggles.

And understand what you are buying.. A bike with a 1 inch thread headset won't mean you can just buy a brand new set of rockshoxs for modern 1 1/8 headset if you change your setup.

As said stick an advert out..and the sellers will come... Or you can modify the title of this one by using the edit tab in your first post.

I sold a really nice 1997 gt avalanche le for 112 quid so the bargains are out there. 150 goes quite a way on standard retro bikes there is a Marin mount vision in the for sale section right now ready to go for 185 quid. That's a 900 quid mountain bike for less than 4 tyres for your car! Go get em tiger
Oh and welcome :D

There's a kona dawg deluxe on eBay but that's already up to £206 with a few days left, the gt avalanche 2 is nearing my budget it's looking like everything I'm interested is going for £200+

Hiya fella.

I recommend maybe saving up anther £50 or so. Then you'll get a much better bike. You get what you pay for ;)

Take a look at Orange Clockworks/C16r's on ebay. A lot of bike for the money. Even better an Orange P7.

Hope you get a good one, and welcome to Retrobike, and Mountainbiking! :D

you might want to keep an eye out here aswell as the bay. Have a look around the 98+ section too as it seems you are looking for a slightly more modern bike. I agree with the extra £50 to your budget also, It will go a long way here
