Retro Newbie
Hi all,
I'm a total newbie at this, looking for an easy winter project. Have seen a few saracens for sale, are these easy to work on or should i be looking at something else. go easy on me!
Cheers si

With a few notable exceptions a bike is a bike. Pretty much all the same to work on. However A saracen is a good start point, relatively plentiful, good to ride and don't cost the earth if you do feck it all up.

Of course its a slippery slope...my first project after joining here was based on a £10 Orange frame...

Cheers for the reply mate.
Have seen a rufftrax for sale on here recently might see if its still up for grabs.

the rufftrax was a low end model, with a heavy frame. it'll be good to practice on, but you'll soon yearn for something classier

Thanks for the replies.Just out of interest what would you class as better or classier stuff?, only got a bedget of around £90 max
cheers si

more expensive models with better quality frames.

Frame, fork and wheels/tyres are the things that really affect the ride quality.

a rufftrax frame would have had a couple of chromoly tubes. it was part of a £200 or so bike (and was pretty much the best bike at this price point around 1996)

a protrax like this one http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... 99acdbc2b2

has a full tange cromo frame

Hi si, welcome to retrobike on behalf of all the community.....don't leap at anything without thinking, £50 will land you a mid range frame that you wont feel was a compromise in 12 months time.......my m1000 being my point in question...... :D

Konas are in plentiful supply and you can pick up something reasonable like my Fire Mountain for anywhere between £50-£150 depending upon the condition and quality of gear on it. They are very nice to ride as well which of course is what it's all about.
