Newbie saying hello

Hello!

Hope you all had a good Christmas & Happy New Year.

Can't remember how I found you lot now...

Anyway, I ride a Raleigh Special Products Division Dynatech Diablo - titanium top & downtubes, cro-mo for the rest - which is a beautiful metallic green with unpainted titanium that's lacquered for protection. I built it in 1995 with a Halson Inversion fork, handbuilt wheels (Bonty rims, s/s spokes, Hope front & Shimano STX cassette rear) that have never gone out of true, Club Roost bar, Gripshift, SPDs, 7 spd XT rear cassette & LX taper crank Chainset (22/32/42), cheap seat, kalloy post, pattern cantis & a brace front & rear, LX/STX derailleurs.

It's only changed as needs demanded and now has a 23" Amoeba riser bar (ebay), titanium Profile stem (ebay), Pace RC35MXCD fork (ebay), Flak Jacket cable system, XT V-brakes, panaracer tyres, a newer XT rear cassette, XT derailleurs & Crank Bros Egg Beaters (ace!!).

Forks need a service & new elastomers, chainset needs replacing - well, maybe just the rings...would like to go back to 26/36/46 as on my first bike - and I might change the shifters soon. Rims a little worn, but still true. New seat - comfy with a nice design. Thinking about a Rolls or Brooks replacement next time round.

Phew...

This year, would like to build up a GT Zaskar with hope discs or Maguras.

Perfect bike would be a Rock Lobster Team Titanium.

Also have a Trek 370 road bike - cro-mo, toe clips, new front derailleur, new cassette, new hand built wheels from Henry Burton Cycles in Stafford for a mere £65 - bargain. Want to convert to Ahead - have a stem (TBC) - oops, work calls...999...more later

Always nice to hear from new members on here, not been on that long myself but it's a good bunch, not all stuffy and disc-brake obsessed like another site I won't mention
I see you're Staffs' way, there's a group ride over Cannock way 30th Dec if you fancy a blast ??

Cheers mate. Other site? Puzzled...

Get out over Cannock Chase quite a bit just lately, once with a bunch off another forum and mostly with mates from work - we're trying to be more organised about it and do it weekly if possible...we're fortunate to have the time available mid-week too as we all work shifts.

Xmas/New Year period though, is well out of the question unfortunately - partner would string me up in very short order as I work over Xmas - been on 25th, 26th & 27th. On again 31st to 3rd inclusive, so off days are home with partner days. New year though, no problemo.

I see you had a Dynatech MT4 - shweet...spiritual grandson of mine I think.

Where was I? Oh road bike - have a USE Alien stem for Ahead, just looking for a carbon fork at the right price now.

Into cross-country off road mainly, the aforementioned Cannock Chase & FtD is my usual and favourite haunt. Road bike's for improving fitness so I can tackle stuff better on the MTB...fitness wise. Otherwise, also been to Summit Trail and Macchynleth (sp?) this year. Hope to be getting down to Hopton Woods, Eastridge Forest & Ludlow next year - back to Wales again for more of their waymarked stuff.

Hopefully, can get a good sized bunch from work & anyone else who wants to join us is most welcome. I drive an Escort with 3 racks permanently roof mounted and have a Thule 3 bike carrier for the rear also.

That, in a LARGE nutshell, is it.

Thanks for listening and reading.

Hello mate,
welcome to the " old tat " club. Remember; always slag off retro kit. This way the pillocks will always undersell it.
