Newbie from the retro era :)

Hey Steve,

You know what they say about Hotel California..? Same on here ;)

A very warm welcome... you know you can still get all black Porcs on ebay.

I am looking forward to 'Steve's Alpinestars project'

Cheers,

Chaser.

I asked my mate today. It is the yellow one and the guy that has it now is apparantly a member of this forum, although I dont know his username. My mate sent him an email with a link to this thread and he said he would post something up fairly soon. Fingers crossed!!!

Many thanks for all your efforts there. Looking forward to some good news, soon :)

Cheers Chaser,

I didn't know you could still get porcs, are they the original genuine items, or new versions of the old theme? Like I say, one of the best tyres in the day, for the trail, but lasted about 5 minutes on the road getting there! lol.

Yes, there will definitely be a 'Steve's Alpinestars Project' in the future, once I find the donor bike!

Steve

Hi Steve,

I have seen them on ebay... Porc 2's [look same as original] all black folding bead. I think they were only about 20 quid per pair?

Let me know if you can't find them and I'll have a search for you.

Just a bit of advice on getting the Alpinestars project up and running...

Don't buy the first frame you see, unless it's a minter of course. When I was looking for a Dyna-Tech I went through 3 frames before I settled on one.

Eventually a NOS one came up!

It is always easy to convince yourself that "I'll never see one of these again" Then you go and lash out a load of money... then next week guess what? A better one comes up on RB or ebay!

You see what I mean?

Cheers,

Chaser.

So (hopefully), here's a pic of me on my Alpinestars Cro-Mega DX, back in the day................... (1991 to be precise, and the Black mountains of Wales!)

Yeah I cut the handlebars to death, as I spent so much time riding in the city, I could just weave through the fraffic!! I had a bright luminous yellow Avocet on there, too! Ahhh, the memories!! lol.

To be honest I can't remember who made the brake lever covers, I know they were pretty useful in the wet, especially with wet gloves on.

The shades, well they were a masterpiece - if I remember rightly in this picture I had my 'angle-adjustable' JT threads on?? Anyways, I've still got them in a box in the garage, so can easily replicate the retro look!! lol.

Gawd, I really can't remember??

I know shortly after this pic was taken I swapped the bars for a Scott AT4 pro, a set of Dia-compe's and some dx/xt shifters (thumbies). Then I swapped the saddle for a Ritchey, in white, and whacked a 52t chainring on for some proper big downhill speed!!!! oh yeah, and some air-B latex!
