Newbie and New project x 2 bikes

Hi Guys,
Quick update,
Well the wife knows and did not bat a eye lid! :? something is coming my way or maybe its because I am taking her on holiday! ha ha note to ones self.
Well the Atlantis has been stripped, just the had set and one side of the bb to be removed.
The none side bb is a v big spanner which I don't have at this stage. Have a friend with a well equipped work shop! :idea:
The head set I don't have a remover or press yet! but have a friend, so should be removed tomorrow.
I found the BB Bracket was caked in black think grease. I am surmising that it was original grease.
Cleaned all the bearings and the Bottom Bracket as far as I can.
The pedal on the drive side is well and truly stuck on to the crank. So I have left it alone.
So she is only a frame, head set and gears now.
There is a couple of questions I have for now :-
All the chrome, aluminium and wheels d I clean and polish to a shine or matt finish?
I have noticed the brake covers are cracked and perished does anyone now where I an find a new set?

Decals are a bit shabby also I want to lacquer he bike and new decals this is a three part question
1, Does anyone know a good bike frame sprayer Near Manchester way?
2, Do I remove and re place the decals or the sprayer?
3, Will adding new decals take away from the "original" bike feel?

This was the cheapest Claud butler, and has already been painted. The gear cable under the bottom bracket is surely an addition, and the fixed bracket cup was left in when it was painted. Probably chromed at the same time.
Some fillet brazed/bromze welded frames were fitted with a BW unit bottom bracket, which is a loose inner shell which slides in, retained by tapers on the fixed cup and lock ring. I can't tell from the pics.
In the 1950s we all used tubular tyres because the rims were so much stronger and lighter than the wired-on, and 27 x 11/4 were large and 2 to 3 times the weight.

Well My Atlantis is now up and running, here what I have done to her and the steps I took:-
1. Stripped the bike, removed the handle bars and head set, also removed the folks at the same time.
2. Removed the cranks and pedals, except the drive side as this was well and truly stuck and not wanting to loose the crank.
3. Cleaned and inspected the chain (only 25 so new chain so to say) The chain link was stuck but the chain in serviceable, So I have opted to leave the chain on for now until I get a new bling chain.
4. Removed the rear and front derailleurs (as best I could) had to clean all the years of grease and grim.
5. Removed the seat post and saddle, the bracket was on back to front :facepalm: .
6. Took wheels off.
7. removed al cables inner and outer including brackets.
Once I had the frame stripped I took my time cleaning all the grim out and re-greasing with anti sieve grease. cleaned all the bearings ( took a long time and a lot of de-greaser.)
Cleaned all the metal work, wheels, seat post, handle bars, stem and frame
Rebuilding process:-
Bottom bracket:- re-greased and anti seized the bottom bracket, (cup and adjuster) Tightened the BB to tight no ration at all. Also replaced the Spindale the wrong way, this made the drive side crank rub against the frame.
Headset:- Cleaned and re-greased and replaced headset and handle bars.
gears:- Replaced and cleaned re set gears.
well hopefully that will help anyone else who is doing a re build solo.
I must give a shout out to John who has walked me through all the problems I have had
well here she is only need to re bar tape and new brake covers.

Try and keep the original finish, only paint if it's so shot as to be unrecognisable!
