As a belated birthday present to myself I am going to get some wheels built for my Marin Mount Vision. This is the hot-rod build which currently has Mavic Crossrides fitted. Modern black wheels have never really suited this bike. Going to get some Hope Pro II hubs with Mavic 717 silver disc rims. Only problem I have is choosing which colour hubs and nipples to go for.

This is how the bike looks at present. It has a sort of British build theme going. British designed frame. X-lite stem, bars, bar ends, aheadset cap, seatpost, seatpost binder, QR's and crank caps. Middleburn chainrings and Hope brakes. The shifter and derailers are all XT M739.

Bike looked fine and the Crossrides are good wheels and light too, think you will be wasting your cash getting Hope II hubs with 717 rims as it will look the same as you already have and beside the new wheels will be the best spec than what left on the Marin.

Save your money and bike is good, personal choice of mine is get bars and seatpost in silver to match stem and frame and blue headset and you will have a sweet looking bike.

were you looking the other way when you built this, was something distracting you?

:D :p

not the most aesthetically pleasing collection of parts...

I'll get me coat. ;)

I'm going to be awkward and suggest black period d521's, or 121's if you can find them. I think black will suit it better than silver. And then silver or black hubs.

They're DH rims...

I reckon silver rims with blue bits. and I would spray the swingarm silver to match the mainframe better

or get a fork that matches the smoky gray... Fox maybe???

+1 on the fork colour. if that does happen then you should get some hope gunsmoke colour rims (if you can get them?) and lace to the blue hub and nipples

121's were downhill rims in 1997, hardly the same now, they look quite nice and I use 121 and d521 on my Parkpre.

The forks have sentimental value, had them from new and they still work really well. The swing arm is supposed to be XTR grey according to Marin, agree it does not match the colour scheme, since I took all the XTR bits off the bike.

I have ordered the wheels, blue hubs - silver spokes - blue nipples and silver rims. I will look for a silver outer Middleburn chainring.

As usual with these things the bike looks much better in the flesh.
