New to RetroBike - 70's Carlton

I bought new 27 1 1/4 rims from the bay, they are quite good but I have a 5 speed cassette. Mine is very similar to yours. Raleigh Europa 1979 model
 
Thank you gents again for your advice. Martin you are correct i should just get everything working again and that it was i will do.
At the same I am trying to expand my knowldege on all things old vintage bike so i know what to look out for in the future and the OLN was a great help thanks.
I also now understand the difference between 700c and 27" - forgot that different sizes mean different brakes length as well.

I had the chrome version of this in the early 70's............the Carlton Cobra :D My first "proper" bike !

PS Do you have an MR2? I had Super red II 1978 AW11 which is still around registered as E522 DFV

Spokesmann you have a very nice Rev3 T bar. I have a Rev2 Tintop (bit chavved up though)

Which is why I intend to keep mine - the Mk1's are suppose to be more 'pure' compared to our heavier and cumbersome Mk2's
It is still registered though - hopefully it is being looked after Shaun?

Anyway back to the other hobbies - this is the stupid little brake clamp that I broke.


I have my eye on a few sets but there is a fabrication place down the road. I may pop in and see if they have anything like this and also some new bolts to (temporarily) replace all the rusty and nearly rounded off bolts on calipers and bars for example. Although these old bolts are imperial? More confusion!

Re threads. The frame may be British but as a general rule most of the fittings will be continental - French, Italian, Swiss etc. and hence metric. Add to the list of useful tools a Vernier caliper, a set of metric thread guages and book of Zeus tables! Actaully you don't need the table these days as they have been largely replaced by Google. It's fun isn't it!
