New (to me) bike

I've come to a temporary halt on this, the rear axle was replaced with a solid one at some point which is not only incorrect but the chain line is also out. I managed to find a 6 speed rear quick release from a similar age Pellisier hub... However when fitted the chain rubs the frame and there's not enough axle length to add a spacer, any ideas

Update on this, I've had the wheels rebuilt using the original Alesa wide section rims onto Omas 'big sliding'? hubs with db stainless spokes, still a fair bit more to do but I've pretty much all the kit ready, just waiting for the lighter nights so I can build it up in the evening sun shilst she watches her soaps.

The hubs came off a 60s/70s Bob Jackson Road bike that was far too big and they were laced to tubular rims, they are light and VERY smooth, the bike will never see serious off road use so they'll be good for years to cone...probably see me out
