New sus forks for old

Right then, let's say you had a '97 Cinder Cone and was going to fit some new forks 'cause the old Indy C's are knackered. What newbies would you consider?

Purely hypothetical question of course and P2's are not the right answer in this case.

I have found that forks have gained in height a lot in the last 10 years - even with the same travel and intended purpose.

Modern (2007 ish) 80/100mm XC forks are about 4cm taller than my Pace Evo 2's and totally changed the ride of my 2003 bike when I upgraded so I could run disc brakes. Forks I compared to include Pace RC39, Rock Shox, Fox and Magura all with the same travel and all had about the same height difference.

The fact is frame geometry has changed a lot and the forks have changed with it. Try to get various models measurements and compare them to your old ones, then get the closest if it's within reason. Otherwise I'd head over to ebay and search out something of a closer year to your frame.....

And here is the key (thanks), I have my tape measure and headed out to get some measurements this lunchtime only to be foiled with none I like in stock so back to the local shop for me.

Unless I'm being a complete idiot (likely) the Rockshox SRAM website doesn't list the shock dimensions. :?

al-onsestare; firstly, nice avatar! There is a thread floating about in Off Topic about Ms Beenie ;)

Secondly, I have some Indy C in 1" 1/8 I'd sell if you want to keep your ride old school.

I tried putting new school forks on my RTS for a few months......it didnt work, screwed the handling as the angles were altered. I have gone back to Mag21's :D

Agree, V nice avatar

I'm off too find that thread

btw I'm running Dukes on my Hei Hei which are a few years old....think thay are around 85mm
