Bit of a diversion from my usual resto projects but as I generally ride BMX more than MTB now I guess it's time - this one is, I think, every bit as much of a challenge as the little Cinder Cone, Explosif and more recently the little T'(w)re(c)k

1999 DK Bicycles Fury - rusty as freak but all original as far as I can tell apart from the front wheel. Not an expensive build by any means but still full 4130 - I imported a Fury frame from the USA in the early 2Ks, built it up with a very similar spec and enjoyed many happy school hols with my boys building dirt jumps and pallet ramps in the driveway (ha! they grew up . . . I didn't  ), so this will be a completely self-indulgent nostalgia build.

Bars have begun to clean up nicely with nothing more than a Brillo pad - forks though will be more of a challenge as the chrome has completely flaked off. Brake bushings are completely seized but that's an easy fix and the seat will hopefully be easy to recover.

If anyone has an old ATI 1-800-collect top-tube pad, you know who to call

Lets go ...

Yup, it'll be a slow burner for sure. Spent most of today freeing the seized brake bushings and retouching/polishing and removing play from the lever - small steps :? I've stripped the bike down completely and geeeeez, how heavy are those cranks :x I'll update with pics once I have more of the parts looking presentable (in the loosest sense of the word  ).

Pic heavy update . . .

Handlebars have cleaned up a treat with nothing more than a Brillo pad

Seat has been recovered (foam was completely trashed so it now has significantly less padding but I won't be sitting down anyway  )

Forks were, er, far more of a challenge  I was initially concerned that the rust damage may be structural but after a couple of days getting aggressive with a big wire brush they look much more presentable although most of the chrome had flaked off.

Over all, I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out. It's certainly not going to win any beauty contests but it'll be a functional ride for the local pump track. The frame ideally needs a complete strip and respray (maybe a project for the future but for now I'm going to enjoy that lovely green). I've cleaned it up as best I can but I'm happy to leave the patina.

Brakes are now cleaned up, greased and working properly and the headset derusted, resprayed and refitted along with a new bottom bracket. This week's project will be the wheelset and cranks. Rear hub is completely seized and the tyres are toast but I have a nice pair of gumwall Comp IIIs on the way

Pleased with the progress so far. Rear wheel cleaned up a treat and with a little adjustment is now running smooth as . . . There were one or two dings in the rim which I've managed to straighten and it'll need a quick once over with the spoke key - runs true but there are a couple of loose spokes.

Not sure what to do about the front wheel - the one it came with isn't original and bugs me as it's silver and not black  I have a Skyway copy mag wheel on the way so I could either fit that (always fancied a build with a mag front a la Dirt Bros) or I can fit that to my Subrosa and use the black Subrosa wheel on the DK :?

Frame is looking much tidier too - patina remains but much is covered by a little top tube pad I fashioned to match the seat

All done and turned out pretty good  Rides really nicely but in true mama style is now up for sale to make room for the next project  Thought it still worth updating the thread though with the finished pic. Fitted new tyres and replaced the bars with a set of 4 piece DK replicas.

Next!! . . .

 what a great resurrection, well worth all the effort
